A fairly recent reconstruction (1989), Kiyosu Castle sits a few kilometers north of Nagoya station, just off the shinkansen (bullet train) line. Allegedly built by Shiba Yoshishige in the early 15th century to complement Shimozu-jō in Inazawa, after 1555 it was used as a base for Oda Nobunaga. Upon Tokugawa Ieyasu's moving of the government back to Nagoya, it fell into obscurity and disrepair, with some of its materials being used to construct the much larger Nagoya-jō.
