Following after Italy's example, a representative from Nazi Germany sent this memorial plaque to Aizu-Wakamatsu in 1935. A U.S. serviceman stationed in the city during Japan's post-war occupation noticed it, and the swastika formerly adorning it was removed. The iron cross was left unaltered and is plainly visible in this picture.
