Uinta Ground Squirrel Spermophilus armatus

And you get warned and warned again that these little creatures bite and nonetheless
people feed them. If anyone wants to use this picture to educate (i.e. scare) people
of the squirrels teeth, feel welcome to do so.

In fact this squirrel was not on the attack but rather sang his squirrel
song that sounds very much like a bird chirping. They open their mouth wide
and whip the tail while they 'sing'...

Seems like my previous comment disappeared? Great catch, looks like a saber toothed squirrel! The ones in Brooklyn also chirp, but the only time I've actually heard it was when they were facing danger from a hawk.
