The sky at Mauna Kea is so clear at night, the Milky Way can be photographed with an incredible amount of detail. We arrived just before sunset, and scouted the area for a tree to place in the foreground. We found a couple of candidates a short distance off an unmarked trail. I returned to the site about 30 minutes after sunset, spent an hour and a half trying to capture the perfect frame, and was very pleased with the results.
