Rowley Horner was a true bayman. He was born two miles from Barnegat Bay in 1881 and for most of his life he supported his sizeable family by selling clams at two cents apiece. He learned decoy carving as a way to supplement his income, from a town friend,Harry Shourds,a great decoy carver in his own right. Horner had a truly remarkable talent for carving and painting decoys. This Mallard Drake was made ca. 1925 and is a fine example of the master crafteman's work.
