The two of them were writhing like this when we came across them, Iwan. The paler and bigger one is an adult while the other (with more distinct markings) is an immature. I have no idea why they were doing this. We brought them (very carefully) onto the boat and placed them into a bucket to take a closer look - see other pic - then released them back into the water. Any ideas about this behaviour?

It appears the snake was playing dead. Was it moving? Did it assume this posture as a response to your approach?
