When I enquired about the name, Bob Reimer, our main man for dragonflies round here reminded me that 'darter' is quite commonly used for Trithemis, Crocothemis and Diplacodes, as well as Sympetrum. But I suppose these names are being standardised to correspond with genus names. In Dijkstra 2006, see alternative names below preferred names.

Anyway I think this one was mislabelled. When Bob told me it was actually Trthemis annulata it rang a bell, as I remembered this one in company with a male of that species at Zakher Pools, Al Ain.

Diplacoodes lefebvrii (yet another variation) can be found elswhere in the gallery.
