saw them on the golf course at the old village vilamoura 2days running16and 17th November Rare visitor to uk, had never seen one so was thrilled,azure winged magpies all over the place

FOund dead on balcony after heavy rain a small wren sized bird with dense brown feathers, all one colour, and red beak.not like a waxbill in the bird books. This had pale pinky grey legs.unusual texture of feathers, seemed thick, dark reddy brown colour. Puzzled!

We live on Guadiana River and today we have 6 birds in the canna that I can't identify: dominating feature is scarlet bill and cheek flashes, no red on belly, light brown top of bird, not speckeld in any way . Pale brown under belly. Heavy beak like a finch. Seed eater. Any ideas? I don't think it is a waxbill.

hi have seen for the first time in Portugal nr the river ancos, redinha ,a small warbler type bird, red or orangy coloured beak ,mainly whitish/greyish but very ditinctive black almost like a y shape from its throat and down its chest, but the most amazingly long delicate tail feathers for such a delicate sized bird easily 150/170 mms long, it sat on top of high corn stems, I am a keen birdwatcher and normal can identify but this has left me in the dark, so completely diferente to anything I have seen here in Portugal or spain

Seen a bird the last couple of nights down on the campo. Similar size to a magpie but head and underside is a vivid turquoise colour with the same colour on its wings on top but edged with possibly black. Stunning bird, nowhere near water or anything. Any ideas?

Have a bird in my garden in Mazarron that I´ve never seen before. It´s all over brown, about the size of a blackbird, perhaps v. slightly smaller, but definitely has a blackbird call. But it´s tail is white! Also saw an identical bird on a walk in same area this morning but this was black, again with the white tail. Any ideas?? Pam

just back from the ebro valley and observed a pair of finch/tit sized birds nesting in a cyprus tree both were yellowand black,wasp like markings with a whitish breast? i am unable to find any info on this species

Hello - I have just come back from the coast near Mazarron in S Spain, where I saw & heard a beautiful bird which I am keen to identify. It was black and about the size of a blackbird but with the most amazing spread tail feathers - about 5 - 7, probably the spread of my hand, not very long but with an amazing disk at the end of each, held pertly up. It also had a beautiful song and was had just landed on a terrace wall on a block of apartments - I think there may have been two but I only saw one clearly. I hope you can help, haven't found a photo so far....

I saw a pigeon-like bird but with vivid red wings and vivid red tail. It was with a normal pigeon. it was walking on the road outside of my house and looked just like a pigeon. Would someone have deliberately painted the bird or was it across with some kind of parrot? Seen in Fuente Alamo area, Murcia, 28/3/16.

I was in Toledo recently (April) and there were a lot of medium sized birds flitting about erratically over the river. They had long wings pointed back, like a swift; I think forked tails but it was hard to make out. There were similar birds in Madrid, which seemed all black to me (most likely common swift, which I have seen here in England), but these ones had white flanks, not underwing though. I'm going nuts trying to work out what they are. They're definitely bigger than a house martin, and I know those when I see them; and I think they are smaller than an alpine swift, though the colouring and appearance matches completely. I've looked elsewhere, and white-rumped and little swifts have been documented in the area, but while these seem to be closer in size, there is no white underneath on those. P.S. There may have been traces of white near their tails, but it would have been difficult to see with the way they were flying. Thanks for any help.

While in Villa Real San Antonio Portugal we followed the Guadiana river and spotted three small black birds with red crowns and belly's they where in a Stone Pine Wood. Unable to find their identification can you help please?

Yesterday here in Calasparra, Murcia, Spain. I saw a beautiful bird that I have never seen before, it was a slim bird, light grey outside and as it flew the whole of the underside was red. Are you able ti identify it for me, please. ph

I visited the Rio Formosa reserve part near Ohala today. I saw what will be my first male golden oriole. Can someone confirm the possibility of this bird in Portugal at thi time of year. Love your photos truly superb. CMG
