June 23 - Middle Prong Wilderness Area

Today's adventure was another creek exploration. Bernie, Harry and I had been looking at Buckeye Creek for some time and decided that the time was right. I was hoping for some leftover mountain laurel or Catawba rhodos or some early rosebay rhodos, but not much was happening there. Buckeye Creek is a tributary of Haywood Gap Stream which becomes the beautiful Middle Prong. We parked at Haywood Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway and headed down the Haywood Gap Trail. I had pre-loaded the coords of Buckeye Creek into the GPS to make sure were going up the right stream. Not all side creeks and little tribs are on the map. By the time we got past Possum Hollow, the stream had begun to pick up volume. This is one of the small cascades along the way.
