This time of year I like going to Big Creek in the Smokies for the wildflower show, but with I-40 still closed, I opted for the Deep Creek area near Bryson City. Kevin Adams' Wildflower Hikes book recommends this area in mid to late April, but I thought I'd see if there were any early bloomers. Even if there were none in bloom, there are 3 waterfalls that are easy to get to. When I got to the parking area, I immediately began looking for anything in bloom, but all I was seeing was old brown leaves with a bit of greenery mixed in. Juneywhank Falls is a short 1/4 mile hike off the parking lot, so I headed up there first. I was glad to see no one else was around.
