November 8 - Sky Falls

We were back on Rock Creek this morning finishing up a shoot and trying to figure out where the Gorges State Park boundary now is. The state has been buying up some of the land around the creek, but I'm not exactly sure which land. The posted GSP map shows this being inside the boundary, but I'm pretty sure this side of the creek is private property. I had been to Sky Falls a few years ago, but didn't get this view and didn't know there was a lower flow - but taller - waterfall in the same view. I also wasn't expecting any leaf color to be left, so that was an added bonus! Jim Bob Tinsley's book lists Sky Falls as 150', but I think that's stretching it a bit.

My parents were looking for property in the area for about a month until they discovered an ad of a waterfall for sale. We ended up hiking to the top of the waterfall to find what we couldnt believe was for sale. Of course we bought the property the next day and thank God everyday for such a peaceful place. Make sure you stop by the cabin to say hello to my rents Jack and Diane. I do believe that to the right of sky falls is part of an 80 acre parcel which the state did buy. I have hiked up just to the left of the 200 ft waterfall on the right and went across it to the right on the top of the ridge. My buddy that was with me was panicing the whole time thinking he was going to die because at some parts you had to dig your hand into the ground to grab onto the roots it was so steep. Good times... We have changed alot since you have been there and i think the long term plan is to make the property a little bed and breakfast for hikers with a couple of cabins. Definitely come on back and if you see some people on the property just explain to them that their son told you to stop by and take a look. Nice pictures, God Bless
