I just found your website with all the photos. I just want to say thank you for posting your photos of Shumont Mountain. My grandmother used to own over 300 acres on Shumont Mountain. As long as I can remember, when I got out of school each summer we would go to the mountains for the summer and come home just before school started. Dad would come up on the weekends. He did the same when he was in school years before. There were no telephones and no television up there back then. My grandmother used to own and run an Inn at the top of the hill just above Rainbow Lake. The Inn had 26 bedrooms. I only remember it having the 6 bedrooms in the main part of the house. The largest bedroom had a fireplace in it. And we called that bedroom the "glory hole." I don't remember why right now. When she torn down all the bedrooms and stopped running the inn, she used the wood to build the 4 cottages that are in front of the lake. She rented them for years and finally sold them. This was in the '60s when you could still hike to the top of the mountain and still have a glorious view and the road to the top wasn't so bad. The last time I hiked up there, I could no longer see anything because of the trees. We used to hike to what we called "the top" regularly and we always stopped by what we called "the pinnacles" and climb the rocks. So far in my searches for Eagle Rock, I've only seen photos of the 2nd pinnacles. I saw on another website it is now called Eagle Rock, but I never heard it called that until today. We used to climb the 1st set of rocks where there were 2 large rocks pretty close to each other. We would have our tennis shoes on and put one foot on each side of the rock and shimmy out way to the top a few inches at a time. Then we would climb down the "normal" way. My grandmother sold her property maybe around 1966, the year I graduated from high school. I could go on, but I won't. Thanks for the memories. It is truly a wonderful place.

Thank you for posting all your hard work locating and photographing these beautiful waterfalls! But to anyone who ventures into these fragile precipices, Please be wary of sensitive foliage! Step lightly, like a ninja, use less damaging routes. And to whoever is placing the rock towers please note that it is not pleasant, for at least myself, to think about the last person that was there. Keep it the way it was. Keep hoppin.

thanks for the info! temps here in "sunny florida" have been a bit whacked too..waking up in florida to hear sleet hitting the windows is a rather surreal experience! now if you just know where someone is hiring we would be aaall set! lol

Thanks for the kind comments, Amy! Hope you guys get to move up soon. Temps here so far this year have been abnormally low. Average highs for this time of year are mid 40's, lows are mid 20's. I hope I don't crash my car either - I won't be able to afford the insurance!

I so enjoy your adventures and photos and have used your directions to find falls on our vacations. My husband and I are currently planning our move to this wonderful area and just can't wait. It certainly has gotten harder and harder to leave each vacation. Thank you for letting us live vicariously through your photos (and don't crash your car this year!!) I noticed the super low temps ya'll have been having, is this normal?
