The proverbial end of the trail - a cliche concept made more credible by the juxtaposition of a crumbling tunnel against the standard silhouette riding off into nowhere. It works, Shirley, as a comment on time. The cowboys are gone, and so, too, will this tunnel erode and crumble. Yet to counteract that, a tendril of life incongruously wraps itself around the crumbling face. You have built a complex image out of layers of meaning and made a substantive idea out of what began as a cliche idea.
