I started this album in December, 2009, while on a conference trip to Oxford with an evening's excursion into London. It is generally believed that Oxford is named after a ford on the Thames for oxen at what is now Folly Bridge. Today it appears to me that it would take an ox with extremely long legs to ford the Thames there! For close to a millennium Oxford has been home to one of the oldest and finest institutions of higher learning. (Or you might want to call it a set of institutions of higher learning, depending on your taste!) As part of England, Oxford is known for its temperate climate for its latitude, and also for its foggy, foggy days.
