Located in Jackson Hole's main village park, it is dedicated to John Colter, one of the Lewis & Clark party who later became one of the earliest mountain men and was one of the first White explorers of what became Yellowstone National Park, although his descriptions were often not believed and referred to as "Colter's Hell".
