okhla barrage

Went to the Yamuna river front in New Delhi on a cold, drizzling, extremely overcast morning. Getting up in the dark and driving down to face such a bleak scenario when all I wanted to do was press the shutter, was not fun. Kept wishing for the sun to come out but didn't happen. :-(

Thanks Photostyle; appreciate your looking; yup am sure things are much changed from the time you saw Okhla Barrage last but still; since it has been declared a protected sanctuary of sorts; it is a little better with less people and more birds. Cheers.

just delightful and ver very nostalgic--childhood haunt; in recent years, every time i have tried to get near the older areas of the barrage i have been thwarted by sentries, barricades, and security routines. i remember so well that as a young boy i had to discard one of a pair of new shoes when a large turtle bit fast onto it! thanks for the superb photos, and the memories. good to think that i have all the nature i can handle, and all the wildlife i can need, here in norther canada. cheers, p/s

Vikas, Excellent shots even though the lighting wasn't what you wanted. The lighting is even and the pics are sharp. You have a wonderful variety of birds. Great work! Do you use a tripod with your 100-400?

Thanks Harish, appreciate it, will try and get some Landscapes/Mountain shots the next time I am in the Himalayas; there are some in my other gallery at this site. Regarding lens, it is the 100-400mm 4.5/5.6 IS L lens. Most of my bird shots are unfortunately at f/5.6 at 400mm (this is as wide as the aperture goes at this focal length). Lovely pictures, it gives great pleasure to see them. Though they may not be of interest to other birders, I would like to see your pictures of the Himalayan landscapes and mountains. I too take pictures but quite poor at them. What lens do you use? You mentioned Cannon DSLR 20D along with the 100/400 L USM lens. This must be a digital camera with lens of focal length 100-400. Dont they have aperture sizes? In particular, which aperture did you use?

Thanks Abhishek and Mandar. Regarding low light conditions; nope actually that made for bad conditions for photography; the light was so poor that had to bump up the ISO and take on low shutter speeds which makes it vulnerable to camera shake. Regarding Mystery 03/04, I will change the names accordingly. Thanks a lot for looking and for your comment; appreciate it. Nice pictures. I would have said so even without reading about the shooting conditions, but the low light makes it absolutely top notch. You don't think that Mystery 03 and 04 could be Asian Pied starlings? Maybe I am missing something obvious.
