Jan 8: Random bad photo

I remember as a teenager taking a photo of a shop front in France, deliberately over exposing, using too slow a sutterspeed and jumping up and down while I released the shutter. Why? Because I was angry. This was back when I was first learning how to take photographs properly, you know, all that light meters and developing with chemicals and stuff. I'd seen some bad photographs in a gallery, that were supposedly great, and couldn't see why they belonged there. They were just plain bad and uninteresting. Give a camera to a monkey type shots. (not the sock variety obviously!)

So why this bad photograph today? Oh, things have just got to me a bit today, and I really didn't have the emotional energy to try to do something technically competent, like I have done for the last 373 days!. In the end, I quite like it, so please do feel free to "oh" and "ah", praise the colours, DoF or composition as you see fit. Truth is I just waved the camera in front of the butter dish and hit the button.

Sorry, I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.

Update: I've just realised that I broke my own snapshot rules... because a) I went into the kitchen specifically to take photographs, and b) I chose to use f8. Darn. Now it's a proper photograph and not a bad snapshot. Guess I'll just have to print it big and hang it on the wall LOL!

A camera,with a lens.
1/6s f/8.0 at 63.0mm iso100, not focussed, not even looking in the viewfinder, subject randomly chosen as I walked through the kitchen. full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Nice color. At first look, I thought it was a slice of cake until I read your text. Better days ahead. I just started a photo of the day and I'm sure I'll have days like the one you are having. Keep up the good work.

How about another attempt with the same procedure and your spirit on the other end of the spectrum. That could be interesting :-)

ooooohhhh.... a bad day. I can relate. Such a bad day that you can't even take the bad photo you wanted to take. Some days nothing goes as planned. There might be a place for this in the Whitney, and then some little kid who is trying to master his first digicam will look at it in frustration and wonder his photos aren't equally as entitled to hung on a museum wall. Well done. - liza

This just makes me wonder why my "bad" photos don't ever turn out this good. Well done.

Crack a bottle of red, get Linda to massage your temples, chill and have an early night. ~ Ian... PS contrast and color are very good, bokeh is pleasing too?? LOL!!!.
