In a little park by my home.
A "nothing special" shot of a random child.....until I reflected a bit.
He's about 6. The tree.....600 years?
A sign to my immediate left noted dense habitation of this park area by native Americans for virtually all of the past 6000 years.
I started thinking about the recent advances in human genome science.
As diverse as this boy's ethnic heritage is he shares, in reality, common ancestors with all those native Americans perhaps 20-30,000 years ago.
Pretty soon we'll figure out, using our gene sequences, exactly how, where and when humans all drifted and migrated to where we are.
It may make your head hurt or you may disagree....but go back far enough and this boy and that oak tree share, too, a common ancestor.
We're on the verge of figuring that out also.
Fascinating, this genome research is going to be.
