This gallery is a bit of nostalgia. A little moment in time. It's really not about skating
Diver Dan had a nice little apratment on Market Street.
(He has a few pictures in the Memorial Gallery. See: https://pbase.com/venicepix/diver_dan )
These days it's almost impossible to conceive that there was ever a time when a person as.... well as goofy as Dan.... could actually find and afford a place like that. Right? Well there was.
Tim and Kelly lived in the same building, but I'm not sure if they lived there when these pictures were taken.
(see: https://pbase.com/venicepix/kelly_and_tim )
I really don't know that much about Diver Dan, but I've always suspected that perhaps those times on Market Street were something of a golden age for him.
Byron and Mike Built a ramp in front of Dan's place using lumber that I suspect was generously donated by construction sites in the neighborhood. Of course, the police told them that it would have to come down.
My house was really tiny and I was building a little 'guest shack' in my back yard using old used wood and a building permit that I had found in a box of Crackerjack. I think that Byron came up with the idea of trading the plywood and 2X4s from the ramp for a couple of rolls worth of pictures.
Byron and Kori are still around and still friends.....don't know what became of Mike
So this gallery is a little unexpected last payment on the deal Byron and I made all those years ago...

We moved in upstairs with Tom, right around this time. Things like this going on all the time downstairs had a big effect on me and my bro.. Surfing and skating became everything, it already was, but we got thrown into the lions den.. it was the coolest thing in the world to a litttle kid.. Thanx again for the pix!
