New Zealand vs. Philippines. Friday 8th July to Sunday 10th July 2011.Held at the TSB Hub Hawera Taranaki New Zealand.
Day one Singles between Jose Ruben Statham and Ruben Gonzales. Ruben Statham got the New Zealand cause off to a great start by winning the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
Day one singles match two Michael Venus vs. Cecil Mamiit.
Davis Cup Asia/Oceania zone group1In a very even match up Cecil Mamiit took out the first set 7-6 in a tie break
Michael Venus came back in the second set again with a tie break to take out the set 6-7.
The third set was a little easier for Venus as Mamiit seemed to tire taking it out 6-3.
In the fourth Mamiit got what seemed to be a second wind to take out the set 6-4.
Set five saw Michael Venus take control of a tiring Cecil Mamiit and take out the set and match 6-3.
Day two doubles played between Artem Sitak and Marcus Daniell of New Zealand against Cecil Mamiit and Ruben Gonzales of the Philippines.
The first set was very even with both sides giving everything with the set being tied up at 6 games all sending it to a tiebreak. New Zealand picked up a gear and easily won the tie break.
The Philippine players then seemed to tire and New Zealand to allow Artem Sitak and Marcus Daniell to dominate the next two sets 6-3 and 6-2. This gave New Zealand the match and the Davis Cup tie to lead 3-0 with only the reverse singles matches to be played.
Day three reverse singles New Zealand won both to take out the tie 5-0
