I live in Virginia and these things have stripped part of my tree in the front yard. What are they and how do I control them?

I woke up to these all through my grass and my blueberry bush stripped. Out of nowhere. I'm going to send a picture to the Ohio State extension office for identification. Gretchen from Ohio

They hit a bush by my patio. It is half striped. They weren't there yesterday. What are they called. Marion from NS.

First time ever . noticed tree in neighbors yard totally stripped of foliage (15-20 ft tall). My red twig dogwood is infested with these small white caterpillars. do not not to spray due to hummingbirds, various birds, plus all benifical insects. thinking cut, remove, burn all infected areas. Nursery suggests spraying
