The crescent on Masumune's helmet is a symbol
of his power which he consolidated in Sendai. He was born
in 1567 in Yamagata Prefecture and at the age of 18 became the head of the Date family.
Soon after, he moved his residential castle (in Miyagi) to Sendai to establish the Sendai-Han.
