Justin Smith Morrill's Rockaway Carriage

Justin Morrill Homestead

"It is an excellent example of a circa 1890 Rockaway. This is a middle class vehicle, the first to put a roof over the driver. And was correct to be driven by the head of the family or a coachman.
There are some very interesting things about its design, which may help in getting the maker and year built. I will forward the pictures I took to our librarian at the Carriage Museum of America.
One excellent thing is that the front left wheel has its original rubber, which is white ( a definite thing to keep original as white rubber was discontinued early on) and rarely seen today in any collection."
