The other day I saw a Dragonfly. I don't recall ever seeing one like this before .I am a 63 yr old native Vermonter and have lived for the most part in the country and small towns.So I have seen a lot of Dragonflies or Darning Needles,as we called them as a child.This one is the biggest one I have ever seen.At first i thought it was a small Bird flitting around the loose woodpile just outside my backdoor. Curious, I went over and looked .Much to my surprise, it was this beautiful Dragonfly.The closest picture you have to it is the Libelulla Lydia.I noticed it looked like it was also on wood.Your picture doesn't say how big the Dragonfly is but mine was at least 3 to 4 inches long with a beautiful white body and shiny dark brown head . The wings of it were clear as glass except for the very ends which had a square dark brown patch on them.It fluttered around the wood awhile and then left. I was fascinated and keep watching for a return visit.I live on the NY border Rt 4 in Rutland County.

Dear Guest...I think those two Yellow Dragonlets...are what are called Wandering Gliders (Pantala flavescens) but consulting with bugguide is a much better way to identify them. Next time I take a photo of this type I will try to get a much better photo so I can really make an indentification.

OOPS! Just addressed the wrong person about a dragonfly identity. Donna, could you please tell me what kind of damselfly or dragonfly the one are that are gold, and pictured as the first ones in rows 9 and 10? Thank you.

Great selection of dragonflies. It's so funny to see other kind of dragon- and damselflies than what you are used to see.
