I never knew that a "Blue Moon" could be actually blue until last night.
It was a hazy, summer evening when I noticed a bluish ring around the moon. So I grabbed my camera to shoot a series of 10 photographs. All were taken hand held.
Three of them ended up looking like this!!! In two, the haze ring was more blue green, and in 3 more photos, there was a pink tinge around the blue around the moon. In the last two pic, the moon was out of the haze and looked "normal".
I'm guessing that all this was caused by atmospheric conditions, camera settings, and the changing cloud cover. Nevertheless, it certainly was interesting.

I found this information from NASA about a moon actually appearing blue : "The key to a blue moon is having in the air lots of particles slightly wider than the wavelength of red light (0.7 micron)--and no other sizes present."
