As the need arose for me to have a monopod
I called back into service a old ski pole.
I glued with epoxie glue a short piece of 1/4" X 20
thread into a hole I drilled into the top of the pole.
then I mounted a Manfrotto 3232 head.
makes also a nice hiking stick.
Version # 2
The ski pole set up was a little short ....
So I cut out of a piece of 2X4 a 1 1/4 X 1 1/4
58 long piece of wood. Then I shaped it down
to a round cross section. And tappered the bottom.
I drilled a 5/16 hole on the top and screwed into it a 1/2 X20
brass threaded insert, then I screwed into it a brass 1/4 X20 bolt.
and let it stick out by about a 3/8 of an inch, then glued it
tight with a drop of supper glue. After that I cut of the head
of the bolt with a hack saw so it will stick out about a 1/4 of an inch.
then to it I mounted the Bogen # 3232 head and "voila"
As I was testing it last Sunday I realized how nice it is to have the camera
at eye level while standing. Also an added benefit it that I can
push the monopod into the soft ground and set the camera to self timer
for long exposure shots like the example at the end. It will be further refined
as ideas come to mind.......
