february 13: for Sylvia: "escape from the alley"

This one was taken in the same alley as yesterday’s PaD and came as is out of the camera. Sylvia has a wonderful way with very moody, elegant pictures with great use of darkness. She uses things as they are and renders them abstract and mysterious, like here.

You're right, I don't think anything can match some of those garage shots! But this is cool - maybe needed a bit of broken glass and reflection in there?

Excellent crop - I like the inclusion of the barbed wire, it works really strongly against the sky.

Love the angle, the darkness and the crisp lines of the platform.

Triste, sadness here Niall but, as usually, perfectly done

I like the steel in this. The wire which instantly draws emotions and thoughts of thread in me, the stairs that I would imagine sound loudly when someone would ascend them with high heels, trying to escape the unknown. Great shot.

Awesome silhouette. I like the way you can still see the barbed wire into the shadows.

An excellent tribute to Sylvia, I greatly admire her work, too. Wonderful shapes/silhouettes here. I just watched Salaam, Bombay and this photo and caption remind me very much of a scene from the movie.

Excellent silhouette Nial, i like the composition with the barbed wire in the only point of the image that the eye could escape, it gives a very insecure feeling to me!

Having to fight barbed wire.. to the freedom of the damaged and precarious metal steps. I can hear the sound of footsteps echo in an alleyway.. fear prickling sweat on your neck, breathless with the need to go as fast as you can. I'm absolutely stunned by this.. perfect composition. The thing is ... I can imagine you looking up, seeing this, and just knowing it was right. Such an eye, Niall..
