january 30 - newport trainspotter

I went too far on a train and found myself in Wales for 10 minutes. Haven't done a real candid for a while...

You need to watch that - one of the blokes here fell asleep going to Peterborough on the train and ended up in leeds stoney broke at 3am. Although it did give us something to talk about for a couple of weeks.

Are you sure he isn't writing down a detailed description of YOU? Great shot.

Excellent portrait. I love the way he is engrossed and the great carriages as background.

What an expression. Well caught.

By the expression on his face, it looks as if he has 'dropped' this number rather than 'copped' it. I was a planespotter when I was younger, hence my understanding and terminology!
Oh yes, I once caught a train to the wrong station too. My brother was waiting for me at the correct place on a completely different line!

Well put in this shot... the man - as if to cut us off from what we see. Maybe because we don't/wouldn't see what he does anyway. Trainspotters are in their own world.. which isn't a bad place to be. I love how his mouth is in a concentrated purse, trying to write down the numbers.. the particulars so he can share with others next time. Excellent little story here, Niall.
Have you seen "The Station Agent" with Peter Dinklage?http://www.bbc.co.uk/films/2004/03/12/peter_dinklage_the_station_agent_interview.shtml
It's a magnificent movie about human nature and what we are drawn to. Funny, sad, and wonderful.
Thanks for this .. i love a slice of life I may never see ...

This is a really great street portrait! I love the expression on his face, and the lighting. Well seen, good to have gotten this one!

Very nice composition. He looks very pleased with himself (must have been a rare train?)
