What I expected to see was the turnabout with an historic marker and carving. Astoria is at the debouchement of the Colombia River travelled by Lewis and Clark in 1905 and 1906.
I have a church certificate of the marriage of my parents in Portland, Oregon in 1905, and they spoke of honeymooning in Astoria. A light bulb went on when I saw the Lewis and Clark memorial. My parents met at World Fairs. My dad was an electrican at the Columbian in Chicago in 1893, Paris 1900, and St. Louis 1904.
My mother's family had concessions with candy and Lebanese artifacts at Australia 1888, Paris, St. Louis, Jamestown 1907, Seattle {Alaska-Yukon Pacific 1909], San Francisco [Panama-Pacific 1913], etc.
They obviously mixed business with pleassure in 1905!
