Texas wildflower

We saw a few clumps of these stunning red flowers growing along the roadside, so stopped to take photos. I have no idea what type of flower it is.
I had to hurriedly grab a couple of shots then get back into the car as I was being eaten alive by mosquitoes! We won't forget the bug spray again.....

worth braving the insects for. A striking and colourful wildflower.

This is an excellent shot Tricia. You know everything is bigger in Texas even the mosquitoes!

Beautiful shot--thanks for braving the mosquitoes! (Looks like maybe a "Texas Paintbrush"?)
