Today was a beautiful sunny day to move the barn to its new home. I took photos at the start of its journey and at the end. The whole move took approximately three and a half hours. I think the journey was somewhere between three miles and four miles.
It was a fascinating procedure to watch. Leo and I are going to miss seeing the barn when we go on our walkies each day, but it has gone to a good home and will be put to good use. The poor old thing does not look particularly attractive on the outside, but the beams and the woodwork inside are wonderful, it must have been built by a master craftsman.
Upadte February 2008. This gallery is getting a lot of hits from people who have done a search on Google for moving a barn. If you are some of those people, please leave a comment for me to let me know whether my images were helpful to you. Thank you! Tricia
Hello, Saving one more old treasures of history. Thank You. I am having a jewel of a old barn moved. Nothing but solid craftsmen work. Floors are all solid wood. Even the upper. Has a side run in the is the length of the barn itself with solid wood floors. Rusty looking metal roofing . A small slope in the roof. Doors are off the henge's but still there.. Replace some missing wood and Straighten up the doors and I will have a dream come true. The old look that you just can't build. Pine poles in rafters, hand sawed beams, tin roof ,old framed windows, owe be still my heart. You story was so very helpful. Thank you Kim

Love the barn. My wife and I are using her grandparents barn for hay storage for our horses. We just found out that it may be torn down. It is far to big to move, however we are begining to look into the feasability of tearing it down and building it back up on our property. I am an old barn enthusiast and I would really hate to see it go.
Great series Tricia. I find things like this fascinating!
