A touch of incongruity moves this image from description to expression -- at first I thought it was woman sitting with her dog. Then I thought the dog was really a calf, but I have never seen a calf as relaxed. And then I saw the offering on the animal's head, and realized it was a street shrine. I have no idea what "Nandi" means, so the caption was not relevant to me. Now that I know it is a street shrine, the image speaks of how religion is integrated fully into life itself -- it just sits there with her, patiently waiting. She pays no attention to the divine here --- she has already internalized it. Your most thought provoking image in this gallery.
