Open places like the greenbelt next to my condo complex are usually dried up and brown this late in the summer, but with all the rain we've had this year there are all kinds of fascinating little flowers popping up that I never noticed before.
This appears to be some kind of lupine. They were here and there all over the place and were an orangey pink color - like a faded Indian Paintbrush. The plants grew very close to the ground and the flower stalks were not more than an inch tall.
UPDATE August 21, 2005 - From looking in Mom's wildflower books, this appears to be Scarlet Pea (Indigofera miniata).
