This is actually a replacement depot built by the city of Wisconsin Dells to replace the old Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul & Pacific depot destroyed in a wreck in 1982. It is owned and operated by the city of Wisconsin Dells and it opened in 1989 after 7 years of fundraising to build it. Local volunteers staff the depot only during the hours when Amtrak is due to show up. One thing is for sure, don't get caught in the parking lot after the train has left. On the right side of the photo you can see the gentleman putting the chain across the drive. When I tried to let him know I was parked inside he was not happy. Then the "Depot Agent" came out and read me the riot act about how I was trespassing, I politely apologized and promptly left the area. I have never felt more unwanted in all my life. All I wanted was a picture of the Depot. By the way Wisconsin Dells if one of the largest Tourist traps in the upper Midwest, you would think they would be used to people taking pictures.
