Pueblo / Nation | Zuni? | |
Dimensions | 8"d x 9"h | |
Date Acquired | 1/16/2008 | |
Paid | $50 | History / Provenance | Purchased on eBay from seller in Texas. Seller had no history and it was described as a flower design, possibly Santo Domingo. The problem is flowers don't have legs--which are clearly visible at the 11 O'Clock position. A floral design might be Santo Domingo, if the temper were volcanic. But, the temper is definitely pulverized sherds--which argues for Acoma or Zuni. The shape and the eased rim is reminisicent of earlier Zuni designs. The red slip on the inside rim is something potters from Acoma did. It is also very thin. I think the design looks more like 4 beetles aranged in a mandala. If someone sees this and knows better please let me know. |
