Hopi Covered Pot (Fawn Navasie)

Hopi

ArtistFawn Navasie
Pueblo / NationHopi
Dimensions5"w x 4.5"h
Date Acquired12/10/2007
Paid$41
History / ProvenancePurchased on eBay. This is an older piece by Fawn Navasie when she was still signing "Little Fawn". This is probably a very early piece--the design isn't quite centered on the face, it sort of trails off to the side. There are some obvious mistakes in the line-work. Its also a bit heavy and clunky for its size. However the shape with the little wings is really funky. I have no clue what this is supposed to be. It sort of looks a bit like a really small soup tureen--maybe its a supposed to be a sugar bowl? Whatever it is, I think it looks really cool.
note: ruler is 6 inches long
