Fortress Marienberg

Würzburg, Germany

The Fortress Marienberg is visible from seemingly everywhere in Würzburg.
Originally, there was a celtic palisade castle at this site. 704 AD the first Würzburg church was erected here.
At the beginning of the 13th century fortifications were built around the church.
The Fortress was expanded and renovated several times during the renaissance and baroque periods.
