My grandson, Rowan, was born around 9pm, Christmas Eve, 13 years ago ... and herein lies a Christmas story.
He was born in a small Regional Hospital and his mother was the ONLY person in the maternity ward that evening. By the time Rowan had emerged into the world, the hospital kitchen was closed and had only cold vegetables available. My daughter was famished, as was the new father, and since both were vegetarians and since it was now about 10pm on Christmas Eve, the question arose as to what's open and where.
My car was equipped with OnStar (which I seldom used). Myself and the other grandfather jumped in the car in this rural town in search of an open restaurant and vegetarian meals for the new parents.
But where to go ... how to find it ... ???? Enter OnStar !!!!
I pushed the button and a male voice answered. I told him what we needed and he asked if we knew it was late on Christmas Eve and most everything would be closed ... but to standby.
About 2 minutes later, he came back on line and said there was a Chinese restaurant that was already closed but that the owner had agreed to provide meals ... that when we arrived at the restaurant, to use the back door.
Upon arrival (at the back door), we were ushered in and the two granddads were seated while the meals were being prepared. Amazingly, they also fed he and I while we were waiting.
Then ... once the meals were ready to go, we prepared to pay and they would accept no payment.
A truly miraculous and Merry Christmas.
