This vehicle was purchased new in 1952 in Germany by the current owner's cousin who was serving in the US Army at the time. The original owner had the car shipped back to the states where he drove it for the next 49 years. In 1964, the vehicle was shipped back to the Mercedes Benz factory in Stuttgart for a "factory refurb".
