This vehicle was adopted by the US Army in 1955 as an inexpensive and air-transportable anti-tank weapon and carried a 3-man crew. The "Ontos" saw action with the US Marines in Vietnam, notably the battle for Hue in 1969. It is no longer in use by US Forces.
The name "Ontos" comes from the Greek for "Thing"
