Tom's Astrophotos

Photos of the night sky. In April 2010 I began using a camera designed specifically for astrophotos, a SBIG ST8300. This is a B&W camera that has on board cooling to lower noise and is very sensitive. A color filter wheel has been ordered that will allow color photos. All others are taken using a Canon DSLR camera. The most recent one's are much better. I've learned alot from trial and error, plus my equipment is so so much better now. If you want to start astrophotgrapy GET A GOOD GEM MOUNT! Early photos are with a 10D model and as of March 2008 I began using a Rebel XT that has been modified to remove the standard filter Canon installs, this allows more red light to reach the sensor. In June 2007 I purchased a Celestron CGE mount (A GOOD MOUNT) that is designed for astrophotography and the quality of my photos improved immediatly. In December 2008 I began guiding the mount using a Meads DSI Pro Camera, PHD Guide software run through a lap top. Again a big improvement.

Early photos were taken with the 10D camera and a Meade LX90 mount.

Thanks for looking.
