Found one not moving in the cool shade on my porch in Brunswick, Maine. Put it on my pen and moved it to the sun. It moved around for a while and then flew off. Beautiful creature, I like to think I helped it.

We watched this exact insect burrow its ovipositor into small holes in a mature maple tree. Fascinating, never seen this insect before. This in Southwest Minnesota.

I saw one of these last fall at my hawkwatch site in Granville, Mass. What an amazing creature! Your photographs are superb!
