14839 - Hatteras Lighthouse

Cape Hatteras, NC

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in the United States
at 208 feet. The climb to the top consists of 8 sets of 31 wrought iron steps.
I had visited the St. Augustine, Florida lighthouse several weeks before, which
is about 40 feet shorter than Hatteras. The St. Augustine lighthouse is in better
shape, having just completed restoration. You can see pictures of it in one of
my other galleries here: http://www.pbase.com/tim32225/st_augustine

Very nice gallery. Thanks for looking at mine. This really brings back fond memories. We have visited this light house both at its current location and before they moved it. The Outerbanks are a beautiful place, but I sure would not want to be there in a hurricane.
