St James, Sag Bridge is the oldest Catholic cemetery in the Chicago Archdiocese. The origin of St. James at Sag Bridge Church and Cemetery
dates back to the building of the Illinois and Michigan Canal in the 1830s. Some of the earlier burials were the workers (largely Irish) who died constructing the canal.
