Cowra Prisoner of War Camp

This is what is left of the prisoner of war camp
set up in WWII.
It is an idyllic setting and many of the
prisoners were permitted to work outside the camp.

This site is listed as one of the Top Heritage Sites in NSW. In 1944 over 1000 Japanese Prisoners of War (POW) staged a mass breakout that was the biggest in British and Australian War History. 231 Japanese POW and four Australians lost their lives during the breakout.

A lovely image, Elaine. A big difference to the way our prisoners were treated by the Nazis. ln SA too they were well treated and particularly the ltalian POW's didn't want to go home when the war was over. Your pic shows a lovely part of the country.

This is a lovely place. The colors are especially nice. I, too, would be interested in the history of the POW camp.

Interesting scene, Elaine. Do you know anything of the history of the place?The landscape reminds me of some of the flatter areas we see from Pete.
