Carnton Plantation, owned by John McGavock, is the final home for 1496 Confederate soldiers, whose remains were gathered from several places in the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee in late November, 1864. They rest on two acres of ground on the old plantation. This begins a short series in their honor. The seven hour battle produced over 7,000 casualties.
