Silent Rest

After the Battle of Shiloh, Confederate dead were buried in trenches by U.S. Grant's men. This is one such pit.
Even those from nearby Corinth, Mississippi, or northwest Alabama had their relatives told they could not come claim the body.
Thousands of men are buried in unmarked trenched at Shiloh...all of them natives of the immediate area of the battle.

This is a beautiful shot in it's own right.
But having the history to go with it, makes it so much more special.
Fine work Michael.

Michael, a very interesting and heartbreaking story to go along with your great picture!

A fine photograph Michael and a distressing and barbaric story.
To this day Generals Grant and Sherman are loathed in the South, and for good reason

Sorry I just looked at the image and didn't look at the accompaning documentary which is indeed history and more sadness.

Great with the rows of canon balls... and the reds of fall.

What a sad place. Just doesn't seem right about the soldiers. A gorgeous composition and colors. Great textures too. Thanks for the information as well!

A very fitting memorial. Its wonderful that these sites and most appropriate
monuments were created and have been preserved.
