Thanks to everyone for commenting and thanks to Hal for adding the interesting information. Please feel free to chip-in any time. LOL It really adds interest to the photo to know more of the history and meaning.

Dear Bob and Barry, Many thanks. Glad you found it interesting.
The thermometer by the way was fitted to the radiator cap.
One filled the radiator from outside, without opening up the engine compartment.
Apologies to Cindy for chipping in here.

Great detail from a vintage car! Lovely definition and color management!

Nice depth of Field Cindy... and very useful information Hal... Thanks to you both...

A very fine photo Cindy.
Before engineers invented a way to record temperature
on a remote dashboard gauge, cars had the radiator thermometer fitted
to the radiator itself, and visible from the driver's seat so the motorist could check
for overheating problems, usually when going uphill.
Later, as here, ornamentation was added, and the ornaments remained, as wings, birds,
animals like Jaguars, winged ladies and lndians (Pontiac) even after the gauge was moved inside the car.

A great piece of automotive engineering.

Thanks, everyone. The hood ornament has "Boyce Motometer" engraved in the brass. The center says "Ford, The Universal Car". At the bottom of the center, the patent info for Boyce Motometer says that it was located in Long Island City, NY. I looked it up and the Boyce Motometer was patented in 1912. It was a thermometer/guage that read the temperature of the radiators vapor.

Very nice detail shot Cindy; you have chosen the perfect DoF to accentuate the subject.

Great detail, Cindy. I had a model A (a 29) but it sure
didn't have a radiator cap like this one!

Yes, I'd recognize that Zeiss bokeh anywhere...
Hoping that ornament is attached to something you or Dave OWNS...
Lovely shot.
