"Last Thursday, the 39-year-old Tauer was working as a security officer at the JCPenney store at University Mall when he chased two suspected shoplifters out of the store. Authorities said Tauer became caught in the getaway car and dragged several hundred feet, until the car slammed into a tree. Tauer also hit the tree and died."
