Birds -- Back Yard Recuperation, March-May 2006

I had arthroscopic knee surgery on March 17, and between then and May 5 I did all my bird photography on my back deck, sitting quietly on a light stool waiting to see what birds would venture near -- at first mostly with the 400/5.6 lens on a monopod, and later mostly with the 500/4, also on a monopod. Quite a few of the shots were close up, and I used a 25mm extension tube part of the time to bring them within the minimum focal distance of the lens, and occasionally my 300/4 lens. Pictures are displayed latest to earliest.

Fabulous photos! I am also recuperating from surgery and am enjoying watching the bird activity in my yard. You've photographed most of the species I see, we must live near each other in northern ca!
